Here are 5 Ways to Get a Brighter Smile. Using a combination of ayurvedic medicine and modern cleaning techniques and consistency, your teeth should be whiter, stronger and healthier.
1. Book your dental appointment.
Book your dentist appointment. I know it’s scary and expensive but oral health isn’t just for teeth and gum health. It can also be a general health indicator, and sometimes a visit to the dentist can save your life. Book it and be done.
2. Floss.
After you’ve booked your appointment, floss! When flossing make sure to take enough floss string. Very gently starting at the back, go between each tooth and get all the nasty old stuck food out. Be gentle so you don’t bleed your gums, if they do bleed its ok, spit and carry on but keep an eye on it and if it worsens, GO TO THE DENTIST!
3. Brush your teeth.
Place a generous amount of paste (natural paste or Colgate) on your dry toothbrush then brush your teeth for no less than 2 minutes. Some brushes have a timer, but take your time and get right into the nooks and crannies. Only bush back and forth and not up and down, as brushing up and down may push your gums back and you do not want that.
Spit the contents out and DO NOT RINSE. Rinsing removes all the goodness in the paste that protects your teeth so never rinse.
4. Clean your tongue.
After brushing, use a tongue scraper to clean your tongue. You need to remove all the filth from your tongue for fresh breath and bacteria reduction. Go as far back as your gag reflex will allow, then gently scrape forward. It is gross, but a necessary part of a healthy mouth and fresh breath. I use a dedicated spoon to do this, but if you are fancy, you can get a tongue scraper from Amazon or other online stores.
5. Oil pulling
Pop a cube or put some oil in your mouth and swish it about for anything from 5 to 20 minutes. Make sure to spit in the bin or dedicated spitoon (to avoid the oil hardening and clogging your pipes)
Is it pleasant? Not really, but after a while, you do adjust and the payoff is way worth it. I usually do it whilst I am doing my skincare routine which is about 7 minutes on a quick day and 20 minutes on a pamper day.
BONUS POINT: Clean your toothbrush weekly with boiling water to kill bacteria. Boil water and put it in a heat-proof jar or bowl then place your toothbrush head in it for a few minutes. Wash thoroughly, shake dry, then place in back on the stand.
