September Reset: Finding peace and balance in the new school year
September is a transitional season, marked by more structure and stability. With it comes the beginning of the slower rhythms and routines that bring ease and balance. The change of pace in nature can be easily replicated in our own lives with a September Reset.
Mind: Self-care is decluttering your mental and physical space.
- Mental Clutter: Clutter, whether mental or physical, is detrimental to your well-being. Mental clutter can be an accumulation of thoughts, worries, and unfinished tasks which create feelings of overwhelm. This can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress and lack of focus. Besides a therapist, journaling is a great way to process your thoughts and ideas. Sometimes we don’t even know what we are thinking, but by writing things down, we can begin to explore and identify our feelings. This, in turn, helps us see how our thoughts and behaviours affect us and our relationship with ourselves and others. It is not a one-and-done thing; journaling is a daily, lifetime mental maintenance that will eventually bring you clarity of thought, peace and wellbeing.
- Physical Clutter: Physical clutter is no less harmful than mental clutter, as it too affects your overall well-being. Having too many things out and on display breaks your attention and hinders your concentration. As you scan the space, you consciously (or subconsciously) make mental notes about each item and what you ought to do about it. It is an exhausting mental practice that can be eradicated by tidying up. A notebook to record your extensive to-do list can help with managing some of this mental load, but ultimately, clearing the space provides a long-term solution. The tidying can be done in bite-sized pieces, doing one small thing every day until your home is clean and cleared.
Body: Self-care is seasonal eating & sleeping
- Seasonal Eating: Eating seasonally is a wonderful way to maximise your nutritional intake without any extra work. Seasonal produce is nutritionally dense and provides your body exactly what it needs at this time of year. We are entering the season of stews, soups, and other rich, comforting foods. So, lean in and nourish your body as nature intended.
- Sleep Routine: September is a wonderful time to review your sleep routines. Kids are back in school, and old routines are reinstated. Earlier bedtimes are required for them to fit into the school routine and have ample rest after a busy day of learning. But as the evenings get longer, we (adults) also need to review and adjust our sleep patterns. Take a moment to review your bedtime, your sleep hygiene, and your waking time to ensure you are getting at least 7 hours a night of sleep, and you can wake up rested and ready for the day.
3. Spirit: Self-care is Reflection & Relaxing Baths
- Seasonal reflection: September is the perfect time to pause and look inward. Through quiet meditation, you give yourself space to gently notice what the past season has brought — the lessons, the emotions, the shifts in energy. Pairing meditation with journaling deepens this practice. Writing your thoughts onto paper helps you clarify and release them, turning what feels heavy into something lighter and easier to carry. To guide you in this process, here are seven reflective prompts to support your meditation and journaling this season.
7 Seasonal Reflection Journal Prompts
- What lessons did this past season teach me — about myself, my relationships, or my energy?
- What am I ready to release and let go of, just as the trees let go of their leaves?
- Which parts of my routine or habits feel nourishing right now, and which feel heavy or draining?
- What do I want to call in or grow this season — emotionally, spiritually, or practically?
- How is my body asking me to shift with the change in season (movement, food, rest)?
- What rituals or small practices can help me feel aligned with this time of year?
- If I set one intention for this season, what would it be — and how can I remind myself of it daily?
- Relax and Reset with a Bath: As bath season arrives, treat yourself to an aromatic soak. Add Epsom salts to ease muscle tension, a few drops of lavender, geranium, and lemon essential oils to calm your mind, and a pump or two of our nourishing Shea Magnifique beauty oil to deeply condition your skin as you unwind. After your bath, rinse off with our African net sponge and lavender bar for gentle exfoliation, leaving your skin smooth and soft. Complete your ritual with a generous layer of our indulgently rich Bare Butter, which restores and replenishes your skin for silky softness that lasts all week.
Summery:
September heralds a new academic year and a slower, more structured season. It is a time to reflect, realign and reset, to support the growth and development of you and your family.
Self-care is a September Reset:
- Taking care of your mind by decluttering your mental and physical space.
- Leaning into change and adjusting your diet and routines as directed by nature.
- Taking time to review and reflect on the past and present to allow yourself time and space to process and release.
That is all from me this week. I hope you had a lovely summer and that you are enjoying the colourful and playful transition of the seasons.
Until next time, remember to always…
Be good to yourself.
