Meet the Maker: 8 Fun Questions with Our Founder

At GoodNatured Skincare, every soap, butter, and oil is made with intention — and it all starts with the founder. Rooted in love, family, and a passion for clean, nourishing skincare, this brand was built one bar at a time, right alongside motherhood, late-night research, and soulful self-care.

We thought it was time you got to know the hands (and heart) behind the bars. So we asked our founder 8 questions — some fun, some deep, all real.

Here’s what she shared…

1. What inspired you to start making soap in the first place?

I started making soap for my son, who struggled with eczema as a baby. Unable to find suitably gentle, pure, and nourishing products for his sensitive skin, I went into real Mama Bear mode and created them myself. Once I saw how his skin thrived on natural, holistic skincare, I fell in love with the process and was especially captivated by soap making. It quickly became more than a hobby and soon evolved into a passion.

2. If your brand were a song, which would it be? 

Shea Butter Baby by Ari Lennox & J. Cole. It’s about connecting with your lover (or yourself), it’s soft, soulful, and made for slow mornings.

3. What’s your absolute favourite ingredient to work with — and why?

Shea. Shea butter, shea oil, shea Nilotica. I love how each shea ingredient smells, feels and gently yields to the needs of the skin. I also love their rich history and how each is used in the different cultures they are from. For me, they represent a duality, the sameness and the differences in African culture, how we use this precious natural resource in so many different ways to sustain our beauty, our bodies and our communities. I love how shea connects us to our land and to the generations of African beauty and wisdom. Every time I work with shea I feel grounded and connected to my people.

4. What does your ideal self-care ritual look like on a Sunday morning?

A good book, a nice slow 90’s R&B playlist, candles and a full shower routine. I love reading, so after a thorough shower with my own Beldi soap, I exfoliate with my African sapo, then go in again with a nourishing shea bar to restore a little hydration back in. Then I apply my oil to my damp skin, then follow with our rich and indulgent Bare Butter. Wear my silk robe and lounge on my bed reading a good book.  (The man and kids and out on an adventure).

5. Bare Butter or Shea Magnifique — if you had to choose one?

I could never choose. On weekday mornings, Shea Magnifique, I use it on my face and body, the kids, on elbows, heels, hands, hair, EVERYWHERE! Quick and easy. On a self-care day, both! First, Shea Magnifique on damp skin, then Bare Butter over it to really seal and lock in that moisture.

6. What’s a surprising skincare hack you swear by?

Apply your moisturiser to damp skin. I like to spritz with a mix of organic rose water and glycerine, then apply Shea Magnifique. I allow a few moments for the oil to sink in, then I spritz again, apply my body butter, then I’m done. It takes a few minutes longer, but the results speak for themselves, plus I am worth it, and so are you. Take the time to pamper yourself, you’ll not regret it.

7. What’s one African beauty ritual that inspires your brand the most?

The use of shea in all its forms — from Ghanaian raw butter to Ugandan shea nilotica. It’s been used by women across generations to care for skin, babies, hair, and used in spiritual rituals and rites of passage; it’s sacred. I actively try to honour that in the processes and products I create.

8. If GoodNatured Skincare were a person, how would you describe her?

She’s soft but strong. Grounded. Nurturing. She smells like warm shea and lemongrass, moves slowly, and reminds you to take a breath. She’s the kind of woman who pours from a full cup — because she knows how to fill it first. Think Erica Baddu, Tems & Rihanna.

What do you want your customers to know?

Behind every bar of soap is a story, a rich cultural history  — and behind this brand is a mother, a maker, and a firm believer in the power of holistic wellness rooted in everyday self-care.
