What is lavender oil?

Indigenous to the Canary Islands and the Republic of Cabo Verde, lavender oil is the extracted oil from the floral evergreen lavender plant. Scientifically known as Lavandula Augustifolia, it is mainly used in aromatherapy and perfumery.

What properties does lavender have?

Lavender has natural antibiotic, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory qualities which are used to manage conditions like acne and eczema. Its sedative properties come from it’s two main components Linalool (20-35%) and linalyl acetate (30-55%) both have sedative and antioxidant qualities to induce restful sleep and reduce signs of premature ageing. What does Lavender smell like?

Lavender carries floral, herbaceous, and sweet notes. Depending on the other scents it is blended with, lavender can either be a top or middle note. It was the first floral scent used in men’s perfumery. Our Muddy Waters men’s acne bar combines Lavender with the woodsy and citrus notes of Cedarwood, to create a moody and sensual bar. Lavender is one of the most versatile aromatics discovered, as it blends well with most scent notes.

Lavender in Wellness

With roots in traditional medicine, Lavender was used to cure and manage various illnesses from skin diseases to psychological shock.  Primarily used to calm the senses, lavenders mild sedative properties has reputed benefits as  calming and soothing tonic to stress.

Stress Relief

Lavender is one of the best oils for managing stress and anxiety. It has a long history of having a calming effect on both the mind and body. A natural sedative, it has a relaxing effect on the muscles when used in massage.

Restful Sleep

Two components in Lavender are responsible for its relaxing and calming effect on the mind and body. Linalool and Linalyl acetate, have sedative properties that are absorbed through the skin and into the central nervous system, relaxing muscles and easing tension throughout the entire body.

Barrier Support

Lavender compounds increase cell regeneration and promote the healing and renewal of new skin cells. When applied topically, it accelerates the healing of broken or damaged skin. It is often used to manage acne, repair scar tissue, and have a soothing effect on conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Premature Ageing

Rich in antioxidants, Lavender is effective in protecting the skin from free radicals and environmental damage. This means it can help in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Lavender is even more effective when combined with hydrating and moisturising oils and butters like Shea, Jojoba and Squalane improving the skin’s overall elasticity and texture.

Acne & Eczema

Acne

Lavender’s antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and restorative properties combine to create a potent acne tonic. It can unclog pores and reduce inflammation whilst helping to prevent and heal breakouts. Borneol, a compound found in Lavender has shown signs of providing pain relief which means lavender can reduce the pain associated with breakouts.

Lavender’s antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties work to soothe and repair damage caused by eczema and psoriasis. Handcrafted in small batches we blend nourishing organic shea butter, olive oil and coconut with pure lavender essential oil.  Our refreshing blend combines bergamot, lavender and lemon for a citrus burst that tackles pesky body odour and is the perfect way to start or end the day. 
For people with acne-prone skin, we combined seductive cedarwood with calming lavender to create a sensual bar that helps manage sebum production whilst banishing acne-causing bacteria.  For hardcore lavender lovers, we have a pure lavender bar that is calming to the senses, gently washing away your stress and worries whilst replenishing and nourishing the skin.

Night Time Routine with Lavender

Set the mood.

  1. Turn off the TV and put away your phone, tablets and other distracting electricals. Put on your diffuser and add a few drops of lavender oil. Play chill jazz or classical music, to start the process of unwinding.

Body Care

  1. Jump in the bath and wash away the stresses of the day with our Lovely Lavender shea butter bar.
  2. Out of the shower, moisturise your damp skin with a body butter of choice, then follow with our ultra-rich Shea Magnifique, pure Shea Nut beauty Oil to lock in moisture and hydration.
  3. Do your face skincare routine, remembering to double cleanse, tone, treat, hydrate and seal.  
  4. Wear some cotton PJ’s, grab your favourite fiction, and make yourself a hot cup of lavender and chamomile tea.

Sleepy Tea

  1. Wear some cotton PJ’s, grab your favourite fiction, and make yourself a hot cup of relaxing lavender and chamomile tea with a drop of honey to calm you from the inside out. 
  2. Read for 30 minutes whilst enjoying the tea, once finished,  turn off the lights out and enjoy a peaceful and restful sleep.

Warnings and Precautions

Lavender oil is considered safe when applied topically, inhaled, or ingested in minute quantities. However, it may sometimes irritate due to sensitisation and allergic reactions. A gentle herb, it is considered safe to use in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. (Please seek medical advice before using any essential oil for the duration of your pregnancy). Lavender is widely used in newborn baby, care but always read the label and do a patch test before use.
